Closure Map - Havasu

Postby dj » Wed Sep 15, 2010 3:00 pm

A reader notified me that the BLM has begun it's every-so-often Travel Management Plan (TMP) for the Lake Havasu Area and made a lot of different kinds of maps available at: . To my knowledge, it is the first time such a "user friendly" map has been made available to the public by the BLM - lets hope it's a new beginning for openess for them. Despite that, the maps are a bit hard to understand so I've written to the BLM field office for clarification and went ahead and produced an 'enhanced' version which opens more easily, contains less bloated code so Google Earth runs easier, is color coded to be understood visually more easily and combined with other maps to 'register' it mentally more clearly.

I answered the reader thusly:
I've spent the past couple of days re-working the BLM file with more streamlined code so that it displays better in Google Earth. I've completed
the file and am now working on the blog post. For your preview, the file is located at: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/567495/specialty/HavasuTrailClosures.kmz
if you would take a look at it please.

Not having been to the area in a while, I'm probably not the best one to come up with the various problems to list (so others can get an idea of what to write to the BLM about). What are some of the issues with the intended closures that people ought to be aware of from what you see?
