Same tactics used for the Lake Havasu land grab.

Unusable maps, I cant even locate this place using Google Earth to try and view trails.

You see short trails on the maps, you know these short insignificant trails they want to close are connector trails to other trail systems.

Its timed when its freezing cold outside making it impossible for me to take my RV to the area and verify the trail systems in question, I was told their is currently 2-3 FEET of snow covering the trails in question.

IMO a like Havasu a extension to the comment period needs to be made so the trails can be verified in reasonable temperatures and when the trails are accessible.

Hopefully we can get enough request to extend the comment period.

It seems the timing of these comment periods is going to continue to be a issue who can we contact to see that this does not continue to happen in the future, do we need to contact the guy running the whole BLM show to change this?

BLM Bear Lake Travel Management Plan Underway

Postby dj » Thu Mar 03, 2011 2:48 pm

I've just learned of the BLMs new plans to close off the Bear Lake riding area under their Travel Management Planning system. [See more information on the OffroadingHome blog posting HERE: http://offroadinghome.blogspot.com/2011/02/blm-closure-alert-bear-lake-travel.html]

This is a serious threat to the riding area and being undertaken when the weather basically prohibits any verification of their intended closures.

As pointed out in the article: The BLM's action seems to be timed to occur when there will be the least attention and complaint. And, the deadline for public comment (unless an extension is requested and granted) is short and unfair - March 24th, 2011.

ORH highly recommends making a public comment to: (make it ref: Bear Lake TMP)

Charles Patterson, Recreation Planner
Office phone: (208)478-6362
E-Mail: cpatterson@blm.gov
Address: 4350 Cliffs Drive, Pocatello, Idaho 83204

Please notice that absolutely none of the maps they are providing give any geo-location data, labels or features which will enable you to make an informed decision let alone verify the trail or submit a comment with enough detail that they would consider legitimate and pay attention to.

Further comments and forum discussion is warranted and requested. Feel free to attach copies of any letter or email you send to the BLM, here on this forum and suggest others do the same.
